First of all, a big Thank You goes to all those who attended and all those who helped out on the day.
I think it’s fair to say that this year was another success as we saw the ongoing development of the Wobble as a brilliant community event for all. The new attractions for 2010 enriched the weekend, with a great competition in the MTB Trophy Challenge, massive fun on the Wacky Bikes, a solid workout on the spinning bikes from Harridges and some fabulous fencing from Wessex Blades. We had strong represntation from the WASC (Warminster Adventure Sports Club) and there were even some brave enough to tackle 40 miles of road riding on the Saturday!
Check back for pictures and reports in the coming days.
This year we’re giving you the opportunity to ride in a time – trial challenge on a small course only a stones throw away from the Town Park.
The Mountain Bike Trophy Challenge takes place on Sunday the 20th. The course is rough and steep in places with both downhills and uphills… but more downhills, so a mountain bike is definitely the weapon of choice. You can bring your own bike or use a bike supplied by ourselves. The course will be marked with slalom style gates and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
The ride with the fastest time will be presented with the Frank Batchelor Memorial Trophy in memory of the late Frank Batchelor.
Of course, your bikes will be checked (brakes!) and you’ll need to sign our disclaimer to take part. Check out the vid below for a look at the course. I did say it was bumpy…
Good news everyone! We’re giving you the chance to win a brand spanking new bike. All you need to do is buy a ticket. The winning ticket holder will get the choice of a Mountain Bike, Hybrid or Childrens bike to the value of £300. Check below for an idea of what’s on offer.
The draw will be on the 20th at the end of the Wobble where tickets will be available all day. However, the first opportunity to get a ticket is at the Warminster Carnival Fun Day on Sunday 13th June in the Town Park.
The Legion Lollop is a 6 3/4 mile run organized in aid of the Royal British Legion. Whether you simply want to challenge yourself or compete for honours, this promises to be a great local event with all the proceeds going to a worthwhile cause.
As part of Bike Week, Chippenham and District Wheelers present Midsummer Bike Night at Castle Combe Race Circuit.
The event is an open track ride for all abilities with the aim to collectively clock up the miles whilst having great fun riding the circuit. It runs from 6pm to 9pm on Tuesday the 22nd of June.
Entries for riders are £2 for adults and £1 for under 18s with all proceeds being donated to the Age Concern Appeal.
All rides start at 11am in the town park on Saturday 19th June
Mountain Bike Ride – ‘Let’s Get Lost in the Woods’
This ride takes place on the tracks and trails of the woods surrounding Warminster. Take time to enjoy the woodlands whilst pedaling your machine. This ride will be led by experienced riders.
Embark on a ride that takes you down the glorious Wylye Valley. With a stop for BBQ refreshments at the Ginger Piggery, don’t forget some change. This ride will be led by Gordon Davies. Also this year, there’s the option of a longer ride based around the Wylye Valley. Check out ’Route 7′ on the ‘Local Routes and Ride’ page.
Buggy and Child Seat Ride – ‘Load Luggers Ride of Pride’
If you have what it takes to lug around your children in trailers of child seats then this is the ride for you. Let’s show those show those wimps who only have their own body weight to peddle around what it really means to be a cyclist. On a more serious note, this will be a ride of easy going pace with little in the way of gradient. This ride will be led by Bill Fryer.
Additional Info.
Please make sure you bring some water and food for all rides. We also highly recommend the wearing of helmets on all rides. All riders under the age of 14 should be accompanied by an adult.
Make sure you give you bike the once over the day before to check for any loose bolts, dodgy brakes or skipping gears. This way you can enjoy the ride!
