The Organisers
The Warminster Wobble is organised by the Warminster Cycle Group. The Group is made up of local people with a passion for a variety of cycling activities be it mountain bike, road or just riding around. Through the Wobble event the group are advocating the use of bikes in and around Warminster for both leisure and practical means. Consequently the Wobble is part of a wider commitment to cycling projects for Warminster, whether it is improving access on paths and trails or promoting participation in cycling activities.
The Event
The Warminster Wobble is held annually in Warminster Town Park over the course of a summer weekend in conjunction with National Bike Week. The first Wobble was in 2009 with great success for a first time event. As a result we’ve worked hard to build upon that success. With such a huge year in prospect for British cycling we’re aiming to make 2012 the biggest, best Wobble to date! Throughout the weekend we aim to provide something for everyone.
The first of the two days focuses on group rides, led by experienced riders, beginning in the Town Park. The second day involves a multitude of events and activities in the Town Park:
- Mountain Bike Time Trial
- Bike Polo
- Bike Raffle
- Spinning Taster Sessions – Courtesy of Harridges Gym of Warminster
- Cycling Skills Course by Enroute Cycling
- Bike Maintenance – Courtesy of Batchelors Bikes of Warminster
- Wacky Bikes
Behind the Scenes
The event itself involves a huge amount of organisation, all undertaken on a voluntary basis. Our funding comes from a variety of sources including the local Council, charitable donations (Fudge Trust) and national organisations such as Bike Week and British Cycling. With these generous donations, the Group endeavours to provide the best event possible for the community. The Wobble is a not-for-profit event meaning any monetary surplus is either donated to charity or used for organising the next Wobble.
Alongside the main event the Warminster Cycle Group promote and facilitate cycling and mobility in and around Warminster. Clearing lanes and being active in local forums are just a few examples of the Groups activities.
